Margaret Hamilton

August 17, 1936 - Present

Major Academic Events: Margaret studied mathematics and philosophy at Earlham Collage and graduated in 1958 before teaching high-school mathematics. She planned to continue her studies in Brandies University, but she accepted a job at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where in the lab of Edward Lorenz, she programmed software to predict the weather.

Major Contributions to Computer Science: Margaret then joined MIT's Lincoln laboratory and she wrote software for the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment project, which was one of the country's first air defense systems. It was specifically a program to identify enemy aircrafts. She then worked at MIT's Instrumentation Laboratory where she led the Software Engineering Division that developed software for the Apollo Guidance Computer for NASA. Margaret specifically wrote software to detect system errors and to help recover information incase of a computer crash.

Marc Hannah

October 13, 1956 - Present

Major Academic Events: He graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1977 with a B.S. in electrical engineering. He then went on to Stanford University to get a M.S., in 1978 and a Ph.D., in 1985.

Major Contributions to Computer Science: He is one of the co-founders of Silicon Graphics Inc., along ith Jim Clark and 5 others. He was named the company's principal scientist for his creation of computer programs, such as Personal RIS, Indigo, Indigo 2, and Indy Graphics, that were used in various movies, including Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Aladdin, The Hunt for Red October, Beauty and the Beast, and Field of Dreams He designed a processor that vaslty improved 3-D images.

Grace Hopper

December 9th, 1906 - January 1st, 1992

Major Academic Events:> Graduated in 1928 from Vassar College with Math and Physics degrees Earned a Master's in mathematics from Yale Completed her PHD in mathematics from Yale, 1934 Awarded by the Association for Computing Machinery since '71.

Major Contributions to Computer Science: Created the first compiler, turning worded instructions into code (forever changed programming, making it more efficient). Worked with the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation as a mathematician to build the first computer Developed compilers for COBOL, or common business- oriented language, a common business language that could be used in a variety of industries.
